Inka Chiriaska Pass
Cordillera Vilcabamba, Peru
As soon as I read on our itinerary that the highest point on our trek, Inka Chiriaska Pass (Condor Pass), reached 5150 m (16,900'), I hoped for a reasonable way to climb another hundred feet to reach the 17,000-foot mark. As it turned out, there were easy routes on both sides of the pass, so we took one. Am I absolutely certain I reached seventeen thousand feet? No. Does it matter? Nope.
